About The Performance Team

Westbrook Dance Academy’s award winning teams offer students the chance to take their training to the next level through competitive dance and outside performances. Team members progress at an accelerated rate due to more classes, training, competitions, and performance opportunities. For the past 12 years, Westbrook Dance Academy dances have won national championships. Since 2014 Westbrook Dance Academy’s have qualified/been invited to the World Dance Championship. Westbrook Dance Academy and its students have also won many choreography awards, performance awards, titles, overall awards, and Studio of Excellence awards. In August of 2015, the Junior and Senior Competition Teams competed in the World Dance Championship (WDC). The Senior Competition Team advanced to the final five and finished third, while the Junior Competition Team finished eighth. In 2017 at the WDC our Senior Team advanced to the the final five, won the Outstanding Performance Award, and finished fourth. In 2018 at the WDC our Senior Team won the Outstanding Performance Award. In 2019 at the WDC our Senior Team advanced to the final five, won the excellence in Theatrical Entertainment and finished fifth. In 2024 at the WDC our Mini Team won the Excellence in Character Development Award.

This is a “team experience.” Responsibility, dependability, accountability, hard work, working with others, excelling, as well as coping with disappointment are all part of being on the team.

Team members must take at least one week of Summer Intensive to be considered for placement on a team.

Team members must attend their weekly technique and choreography classes. Classes provide technique in ballet, tap and jazz as well as choreography for all routines. Extra classes may be added at any time. 

Team members must compete in all routines for their group. Solo, duos and trios are also available for competition for Futures, Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior Team Members.

Team members must adhere to the dress code for classes, competitions, and performances.

Attendance is very important. Excessive absences may result in expulsion from the team. Team members must be at all scheduled events.

All team members must have a Westbrook Dance Academy jacket, which is to be worn at competitions, awards, performances, and conventions.

Being a member of Westbrook Dance Academy’s award winning teams is a privilege.

Team members must show courtesy and respect to teachers and other students at the studio as well as outside the studio.

Team members are expected to set a positive example in class.
Team members must behave appropriately and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Good sportsmanship is a must. Students and their parents are expected to treat staff, faculty, and each other in a good manner.

Dancers and parents must review and sign the team agreement which is handed out prior to the start of the season.
